first_imgFire Capt. Scott Zbinden credited engineer Dave Inman with developing the imaginative plan to bring the owls to safety. “It was a little strange being out there at 2:30 in the morning, but the owls were in trouble, and we stepped up and got them out,” Zbinden said. gideon.rubin@dailynews.com (661) 267-7802 PALMDALE – When firefighters heard screeching coming from a well early Tuesday, they couldn’t imagine whooooo was inside. On closer investigation, they found three adult white-faced owls trapped inside an above-ground well in the 4100 block of East Avenue P-8. Firefighters – on another call at the time – got help from animal control officers, who placed a ladder against the side of the 10-foot-high well, then lowered another ladder inside, officials said. One owl climbed up the ladder and flew away, and two others were rescued by an animal-control officer who climbed into the well, officials said. The body of a fourth owl was found inside. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations! You’re all set!last_img
