Hawaii Tourism sees record growth in Australian business arrivals

first_imgThe number of Australians visiting Hawai’i for business events increased by 44 percent in 2015, indicating that the destination is high on the list of the world’s most desirable business destinations.Hawai’i Tourism Oceania (HTO) Country Manager Australia, Kerri Anderson said: “We were thrilled to see this huge growth in arrivals from the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) market, in addition to an overall increase in visitors from Australia of 7.8 percent.”Ms Anderson attributed growth in MICE business to a combination of Hawai’i’s world-class business event facilities, additional airlift from both Brisbane and Sydney and upgrading of aircrafts on the route.“As a result of this, airfares were very competitively priced in 2015,” she said.“The inventory on the route with Jetstar and Hawaiian flying directly from Brisbane; Hawaiian Airlines, Qantas and Jetstar from Sydney; and Jetstar from Melbourne, presents a great opportunity in the year ahead to secure not only more groups but larger MICE group business from the Oceania region.“Of course, the destination itself is an enormous drawcard and is always high on the wish-list for its climate, experiences and proximity to Australia“With record numbers of Australians travelling to Hawai’i on holiday, awareness of what the destination has to offer is quite high.”Ms Anderson said that HTO wanted to capitalise on the interest and awareness of Hawaii’s unique attributes and in turn show that this is why Hawaii was a value-for-money destination for groups.“While most visitors have been to Oahu, the neighbour islands are becoming more and more popular, particularly with incentive groups where they can participate in some ‘outside the box’ type experiences,” she said.“Visitors can do everything and anything – from hiking the crater rim trail that circles the summit of Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes on Hawai’i, the Big Island; to taking a helicopter flight to see the spectacular waterfalls, forests and canyons on Kauai Island; experiencing sunrise in the clouds at the top of Haleakala crater on Maui or swimming with resident wild dolphins off the coast on the island of Lanai.“We have just recorded our third consecutive record-breaking year of visitor growth and Australia is Hawai’i’s third largest international market so our aim is to keep these numbers growing, for both first time and repeat visitors and the MICE sector is an essential part of our strategy to achieve this.”HTO is inviting attendees to visit their stand at AIME 2016 (#4200), to find out more about the Hawaiian Islands and the diverse offering the destination has for meetings and events and of all sizes.O’ahu Visitors Bureau and Hawai’i Convention Center will also be exhibiting on our stand.  Visitors to the stand could be in the running to win a pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses.
