On Sunday night, the true freshman was 16-for-26, for 280 yards, and two touchdowns, and with an assist from position-mate Tyrone Swoopes, led the Longhorns to a big upset victory over Notre Dame.Head coach Charlie Strong wasn’t afraid to put some pressure on his freshman signal caller. Not only was he tasked with beating a top 10 team at home, but when Strong called Buechele’s mother to tell him that he would start, he made sure to tell the young quarterback not to let her down.Strong called Buechele’s mom last night, told him QB decision was final. She cried. CS told SB: “You better not let her down.”— Mike Finger (@mikefinger) September 5, 2016We’re going to go ahead and say that Mrs. Buechele was probably pretty thrilled about how things worked out.Shane Buechele was a four-star quarterback recruit out of Arlington, Texas in the 2016 class. After a stellar high school career, it appears that he will be the quarterback of the future, and the present, for Texas, as it attempts to surge to the top of the Big 12 in year three under Charlie Strong. Based on his first performance against Notre Dame, we’ll be hearing plenty from him over the next three or four seasons.
