Rahul Dravid likely to mentor Delhi Daredevils

first_imgFormer India captain Rahul Dravid is likely to mentor the Delhi Daredevils, media reports said today.Dravid reportedly turned down an offer to coach the Daredevils after a long season with the India ‘A’ and the India U-19 teams.  He returned home recently from Bangladesh after guiding Ishan Kishan’s team to the under-19 World Cup .The former batting star was a key figure in the Rajasthan Royals but he is now up for grabs after the team was suspended for two years by the RM Lodha committee. (Also read: Eric Simons likely to join Pune Supergiants as bowling coach)Dravid, it is understood, is not keen on coaching Daredevils as he wants to spend more time with the family. There are several others names being considered for the role but the franchise has not made any commitments yet.The Times of India reported that Dravid and some others from the Royals core group, helped put together Delhi Daredevils’ team this year. The likes of Karun Nair and Sanju Samson, who were contracted with the Royals till last year, were bought by the Daredevils in this auction.Rishabh Pant, Khaleel Ahmed and Mahipal Lomro, who were part of the India team for the Under-19 World Cup, are also in the Daredevils squad for IPL 2016. Dravid’s presence in the side therefore would be a major boost.Delhi Daredevils had a disastrous season in 2015, winning only five out of 14 matches and finishing seventh out of eight teams.
