COUNCILLOR CALLS ON LOCAL AUTHORITY TO NAIL ITS COLOURS TO THE MAST FOR DONEGAL TEAM

first_imgA Letterkenny Town Councillor is to plead with his own authority to make more of an effort in showing its support for Donegal in the lead up to the All-Ireland Final.Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh says the people of the town are doing their bit to decorate their houses and businesses in green and yellow. But he says the Letterkenny Town Council could do a lot better in helping to get the town ready for the big day at Croke Park. The Fine Gael politician is to now lobby the council to splash the cash to decorate roundabouts and the town’s Main Street in the team’s colours. He has put down a motion ahead of next week’s meeting of the council calling on the authority to “play an active part in decorating the town in the county colours ahead of the All-Ireland Final.”Cllr Kavanagh told Donegal Daily “The people of the town and the two GAA clubs are pulling out all the stops in showing their colours.“But I think the council could do a little more and I am going to raise it at the next meeting of the council on Monday. “It’s been 20 years since we were in an All Ireland Final and it could be the same again.“This is our chance to show off our town and our county and I think we, as a council, can do a little more,” he said.Cllr said said he appreciated that there was very little money about in the present climate. But he said he will be speaking with Town Clerk Paddy Doherty to see if there are any public funds which can be wisely spent.“I am not talking a fortune but I think we should try and find ways of decorating our roundabouts and our Main Street in the county colours. “Many other towns throughout the county have gone that extra mile and nailed their colours to the mast.“There is rightly a huge interest in the final and we should let the team know that the people of Letterkenny are 100% behind them,” he said.COUNCILLOR CALLS ON LOCAL AUTHORITY TO NAIL ITS COLOURS TO THE MAST FOR DONEGAL TEAM was last modified: September 8th, 2012 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Letterkenny Town Councillast_img
