Construction on the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project is expected to be delayed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a high-ranking government official has said.Railway developer PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), a joint venture between Indonesian and Chinese railway companies, initially planned to finish the project and start operations in 2021.“The target must be rescheduled because the construction is suspended right at the moment. There are only a few activities so it will definitely be delayed,” acting transportation minister Luhut Pandjaitan told reporters in an online briefing on Tuesday evening. Of those, 459 patients died of the highly contagious disease, while 426 people have recovered. To curb the outbreak, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on the public in mid-March to implement social distancing measures by studying, working and praying at home. The provincial administration in Jakarta, which has become the national epicenter of the outbreak, recently introduced large-scale social restrictions that have suspended school, office, religious and public activities for 14 days. Chinese workers wanting to return to work on the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project should abide by the health and safety protocols, said Luhut. The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project is one of the government’s national strategic projects (PSN) in the transportation sector and is expected to need a total investment of US$6.07 billion.Read also: 2019 marks new era in Indonesian transportation systemThe Law and Human Rights Ministry issued in late March a regulation offering an exemption for foreigners working on national strategic projects from the temporary ban on foreign arrivals and transits. The ban is set to last until the government declares an end to the outbreak.“We are still making an evaluation,” said Luhut. “We are still calculating the cost of the delays to the project.”The railway project will serve four main stations: Halim in Jakarta, Karawang in West Java and Walini and Tegaluar in Bandung regency. The trains will travel at 350 kilometers per hour, cutting the travel time between Jakarta and Bandung to 45 minutes, faster than the approximately three hours on the existing train.Topics :

CUBA showed no mercy to Guyana yesterday in the final Group D match in the CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Qualifiers, when they flattened the ‘Lady Jags 8 – 0 at the Leonora Track and Field Facility. The result meant that Cub topped the group with a superior goal difference (+8) over Barbados (+4), despite the two sides finishing on four points.Cuba’s Cecil Tamayo (third from left) joined in celebration by teammates after scoring the first of her four goals.Cecil Tamayo scored four goals, Elianne Sarmiento netted a double, while Amanda Dominguez and Sulenys Barrios scored a goal each for the Cubans, who will now move on to the final stage of qualification in Haiti later this year.Meanwhile, the Cubans game-plan was evident from the start of the game – score a lot of goals – and it was Sarmiento who opened the account when she scored a free-kick that stunned Guyana’s Indera Amardeo in the 24th minute. One minute later, Cuba’s Captain Dominguez doubled the score and Sarmiento completed her brace just on the stroke of half time (45th minute) to hand the visitors a 3 – 0 cushion at the interval.Guyana’s two attempts on goal came from Tiandi Smith when her free-kick attempt landed safely in the gloves of Elaine Fournier and ‘Wonder Kid’ Jalade Trim, who, after some fancy foot moves to evade two defenders, placed her well placed effort to the keeper. But it was in the second half that the Cubans unleashed an onslaught on Guyana’s goal. Tamayo, who came on as a second half substitute for Yedasi Zayas, seemed hungry in her approach to the game and from her first touch of the ball– a hard shot from inside the penalty area that was stopped by Amardeo– it was clear that the Guyanese defence were in for a long night.Tamayo would score her goals in succession – in the 62nd, 73rd, 77th and 78th minutes.Three minutes after Tamayo’s last goal, Barrios, who also came on as a second half sub, put the finishing touches on the Guyanese.Cuba’s Yeisika Munoz being marked closely by Odessa Smith during yesterday’s encounter. Thanks Trim, those in support of the Guyanese had something to cheer about. The 12-year-old striker who hails from Kwakwani, used her Neymar Jr-inspired moves throughout the game and on one occasion, she almost placed Guyana on the scoresheets, but the Cuban custodian was equal to the task to stop her powerful shot. She seemed beloved by supporters of both teams, as they cheered her almost every move, since most persons were amused by her fearlessness in spite of her size.
Richard Commey’s much talked about showdown with Teofimo Lopez looks very likely to take place in New York in December this year. The bout, should it be arranged, will be part of ESPN’s broadcast of the Terence Crawford vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas bout at the Madison Square Garden on December 14.Commey has to defend his IBF Lightweight title against Lopez in a mandatory bout that was ordered by the IBF earlier this month. The announcement said that the boxers and their teams had to sit and negotiate terms by a September 7 deadline.According to boxingscene.com, the two camps are said to have strongly hinted at the December 14 date and it is very possible that the date will stand.Lopez became the top contender for Commey’s belt after he defeated Masayoshi Takatani in July via the judges cards and now, if negotiations work out well, he will get a shot at trying to win the belt after openly stating his wish to become the division’s new champion and go after Vasyl Lomachenko for his WBA and WBO belts in a bid to unify the crowns.
That’s something in which fans and pundits (and, OK, reporters) can partake, but for Hurts and Alabama, it was just part of the contingency plan. Saban understood the possibility of Tagovailoa getting hurt and prepared accordingly. For a man as detail-oriented as Saban, nothing is left to chance, and it showed in the huddle before Hurts led his team to the improbable win.”We didn’t have to get some emotional ‘Remember the Titans’ speech,” Alabama tackle Jonah Williams told Sporting News. “We were able to just come out and execute the plays to win the game.”I know it’s very poetic, but at the end of the day, it’s just cold, hard execution. … I think we’ll worry about the fairytale when it comes out in 10 years, but right now we’re just focusing on the Playoff.” MORE: Twitter reacts to Hurts’ comeback winOn Saturday, not even a year removed from that game, Hurts got his moment to do the same, coming off the bench in relief of a struggling and injured Tagovailoa to lead Alabama to two touchdown drives and end the game with a 35-28 win. The whole scenario reads like something out of a fairytale.Hurts’ late-game heroics were enough to give people a rooting interest in hated Alabama. Hell, they were even enough to evoke an emotional response from coach Nick Saban after the game.”I’m so proud of this guy, for what he’s done this year,” Saban said. “I can’t even tell you.””It kind of feels like I’m breaking my silence,” Hurts told media after the game. “I haven’t said anything all year, but this team has worked really hard. In the offseason last spring, we know what adversity looks like. Sometimes we’re going to get hit in the mouth, but we know we’re going to be fine.””Hit in the mouth” is putting it nicely. Despite the win, Alabama was dominated in a way that is rarely seen from this Saban-led juggernaut, which has beaten every other opponent this season by at least three touchdowns.Georgia’s offensive line mauled Alabama’s defenders, turning what looked to be 2-yard runs by D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield into first-down carries, especially in the first half (the two combined for 135 yards and a rushing touchdown). Quarterback Jake Fromm (25-for-39 passing, 301 yards, three touchdowns) looked like the Heisman candidate instead of Tagovailoa, taking advantage of coverage mismatches to hit receivers in stride for huge gains. On the defensive side, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart — a Saban disciple — engineered blitz packages that confused Alabama’s front and forced the worst game thus far in Tagovailoa’s career (10-of-25 passing, 164 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions).None of that mattered at the end of the day. Alabama’s defense did its part as it limited Georgia to one scoring drive in the second half, and the Tide found themselves down by just a touchdown when Hurts took over in the fourth quarter. He led Alabama to touchdowns on both of his drives: One went 80 yards in 16 plays, the other 52 in five. His first touchdown, a 10-yard connection with Jerry Jeudy with 5:19 remaining in regulation, tied the game 28-28. Then, with 1:04 left, Hurts scrambled — something for which he has been admonished in the past — for a 15-yard go-ahead score. He finished with 7-of-9 passing, 110 total yards and two total touchdowns. One minute and a failed Georgia Hail Mary later, Alabama found itself atop the SEC once more, and it had Hurts to thank for that. This, after everyone wondered in the offseason whether Hurts would still be on this team in 2018.MORE: Takeaways from Bama’s winGeorgia, which twice led by 14 in this game, did itself no favors in this game, either (a missed 30-yard field goal attempt from sure-footed Rodrigo Blankenship, Smart’s decision to sub in Justin Fields for a red-hot Fromm, and an ill-conceived fake punt on fourth-and-11 stand out). But make no mistake: Hurts’ exploits Saturday will become part of the lore of the sport, of this program and of his legacy.”I’m so happy for the guy, all the things he’s been through the season, the offseason, the quarterback battle, the whole dilemma,” Alabama center Ross Pierschbacher said. “Just for him to be on this moment and just to execute the way that he did, it’s just awesome, and I didn’t expect anything else from him.”You can’t write a book like this.”That said, it’s easy to get caught up in the emotion of the moment, of this game — to draw parallels to that 2017 College Football Playoff championship game and wax poetic about what this moment “means” for Hurts and Alabama. ATLANTA — History has a funny way of repeating itself, at least for Alabama. It was on Jan. 8 of this year that backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa became the biggest phenomenon in college football when he replaced a struggling Jalen Hurts and led his team to a comeback overtime win over Georgia in the national championship.
ANAHEIM — Wilfredo Tovar made his major league debut on Sept. 22, 2013 with the New York Mets. His teammates included a present-day coordinator of player development (the Blue Jays’ David Aardsma), a special adviser (the Mets’ David Wright) and an assistant pitching coach (the Twins’ Jeremy Hefner).Tovar played eight more games in the majors and 536 in the minors. He bounced from the Mets to the Twins to the Cardinals to the Angels – all the while waiting for a phone call that would return him to a major league clubhouse. The call finally came.Tovar, 27, was selected to the Angels’ major league roster on Friday, prior to their game against the Seattle Mariners, taking the place of catcher Dustin Garneau. Four years, eight months and 11 days after his last major league game, Tovar admitted the occasion left him feeling emotional. “It has been a couple years,” he said in Spanish. “I think that I’m ready.”Why now? Zack Cozart (shoulder) and Andrelton Simmons (ankle) are on the injured list. Taylor Ward is back at Triple-A Salt Lake. In the meantime, David Fletcher, Tommy La Stella and rookie Luis Rengifo have been pressed into everyday service. Manager Brad Ausmus wanted a backup infielder who could get the Angels’ new regulars off their feet.Tovar has experience at shortstop, second base and third base, in order of frequency. Listed at 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds, Tovar is on the roster for his defense, but Ausmus said “I wouldn’t look past his bat.”Tovar, a right-handed hitter, batted .306 in spring training with two home runs, a triple and two doubles in 22 games. At Salt Lake, he was hitting .285 with three home runs and 35 RBIs in 51 games. The Angels optioned pitcher Jaime Barría to Salt Lake on Friday. They also activated catcher Kevan Smith (concussion) from the injured list. That left them with seven active relievers for Friday’s game against the Mariners, something of a rarity. But since Barría absorbed all five innings of relief in Thursday’s game against the A’s, the Angels’ bullpen entered the weekend feeling unusually rested. Angels’ poor pitching spoils an Albert Pujols milestone Peters has made three appearances for the Angels this season, all as a reliever, and allowed one run across three innings. Suarez allowed three runs in 5-2/3 innings against the Mariners in his debut Sunday. For Suarez to rejoin the Angels within 10 days after he was demoted, another player would need to be placed on the injured list.ALSOJustin Upton went 1 for 2 with a single, walk and strikeout in three plate appearances as the designated hitter for advanced Class-A Inland Empire. On Thursday, Simmons took ground balls for the first time since the injury.“It’s improved a lot,” he said, “but I still think it’s going to be swollen for at least a little bit.”Simmons said he’s swung a bat against underhand and overhand tosses. He was still awaiting clearance to move laterally in the field when he spoke to reporters Friday afternoon.Besides the sprain, Simmons said he’s dealing with a bone bruise that “hurts the most, or that I can feel the most, when I’m moving around.” The veteran shortstop sustained the injury when he landed awkwardly and turned his left foot trying to beat out a grounder at first base. There is no timetable for Simmons to return.PITCHING PLANSDillon Peters joined the Angels on Friday and will be officially recalled from Salt Lake on Saturday. The left-hander is part of the Angels’ pitching plan for the game, but Ausmus said Friday afternoon that he might consider using an “opener” in the first inning.Related Articles

The Cincinnati Bengals used the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL entry draft to take LSU quarterback Joe BurrowLos Angeles, United States | AFP | Joe Burrow, who had a season for the ages in 2019 and was the overwhelming favorite to go No. 1, was snapped up by the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL’s first ever “virtual draft” on Thursday.Burrow was the massive odds-on favorite to go first overall after coming off an historic campaign at Louisiana State University where he won the national championship, the Heisman Trophy as the top US college player, and led the Tigers to a 15-0 record.“To jump to No. 1 is crazy to me but it is a dream come true,” Burrow said from his parents’ Ohio home. “I wasn’t very good my junior year but I worked really hard to get better.”The Bengals took Burrow with the first pick of the draft which was held remotely as the NFL’s 32 GMs were forced to make their selections from scattered locations across the US. A planned Las Vegas gala had to be scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor described Burrow, who threw 60 touchdown passes last season, as the “complete package”.“There’s a lot of things tangibly and intangibly that he brings to the table. You see it with your own eyes: ability, leadership. He’s the total package,” Taylor said.Bengals went 2-14 last season and haven’t won a playoff game in three decades so there was no chance they were going to pass on a potential franchise quarterback like Burrow. The Washington Redskins made Ohio State University defensive end Chase Young the second pick in the draft, the annual selection of the cream of collegiate players that helps teams in America’s most popular sport replenish their talent pools.American colleges are the biggest supplier of players to the NFL.Young joins a Redskins defensive line that already includes four first-round picks.Young’s teammate Jeff Okudah went third to the Detroit Lions, who filled a huge need by choosing the cornerback from Ohio State. The Lions were hoping to get Okudah after trading cornerback Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles last month. The fourth pick saw Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas go to the New York Giants. The Miami Dolphins rounded out the top five by using the first of their three first-round picks to select Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. This year’s draft was in uncharted territory with lockdown restrictions in place across the country due to the new coronavirus outbreak.Instead of being able to conduct face-to-face interviews between players and teams, NFL scouts spoke with prospects via video call platforms such as FaceTime and Zoom. The televised draft began with a moment of silence for those who lost their lives and others who made sacrifices in the pandemic.– ‘Come together’ – Speaking from his basement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said despite the challenges, he hopes the draft gives sports fans some hope and a platform to heal.“We all need something to look forward to and come together. These players are going to bring hope to their communities and teams,” Goodell said. The coverage also included a video message from Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease specialist, who said the draft can serve to take people’s minds off the pandemic.“I hope that sooner or later, hopefully sooner, we can get back to some form of normality so we can all enjoy the sport we love,” the doctor said. The first six picks in the draft included three quarterbacks with Burrow, Tagovailoa and Oregon’s Justin Herbert going to the Los Angeles Chargers in the No. 6 spot.Alabama’s third player in the top 12 was wide receiver Henry Ruggs, the first draft pick in the history of the Las Vegas Raiders. Seven picks later, the Raiders took cornerback Damon Arnette from Ohio State. For the first time since 2015 there were no trades among the teams picking in the top 10. Share on: WhatsApp
